Every guest at Dominicus Beach, Bayahibe walks the same crushed coral sand and wades into the same warm, shallow Caribbean water. The difference starts when you turn back toward your room. At Sunscape Dominicus La Romana, the Sun Club is the club-level tier that changes where you sleep, where you have breakfast and who looks after your dinner reservations. The question most travelers ask is: does it earn its price? This guide covers the room categories, the costs and the benefits, then sets the guest praise next to the complaints so you can decide for yourself.

What the Sunscape Dominicus Sun Club Is

The all-inclusive resort sits on the Boulevard Dominicus Americanus (Av. de los Hoteles) in Dominicus, a short 10-minute drive from the fishing harbor and town of Bayahibe. Hyatt counts 854 rooms and suites on the property, and the Sun Club is the part of it meant to feel smaller and more personal.

Hyatt positions the Sun Club as a club-level program: a larger room in a preferred spot, a private lounge, concierge-style service and a few upgraded amenities. Everyone at the resort gets the restaurants, the pools, the kids and teens clubs and the water sports. Sun Club guests get those plus a short list of extras.

Two Ways Into the Sun Club

Book a Sun Club Room Category

This is the clearest route. Hyatt lists a long run of Sun Club categories, from a 447 square foot Superior Ocean View King up to a 1,852 square foot two-bedroom master suite. When you book one, you get both a named room type and the club benefits.

Buy a Supplement at Check-In

Some guests report being offered Sun Club at the front desk after arrival. One guest was quoted $50 USD a day in July 2025, though the review does not say whether that covered one person or the whole room. A 2026 guest said the purchase delivered services and benefits only, not the better room or location they had assumed. Hyatt does not publish a standard supplement price, so treat the $50 figure as a single data point and ask for the exact inclusions in writing before you pay.

None of the official sources we checked mention a Sun Club minimum stay or advance-purchase rule. Adults-only restrictions and maximum occupancy still apply to the relevant room categories.

Sun Club Room Categories

Standard rooms at the resort are 357 square feet, with a private furnished balcony, a king bed or two doubles, and a shower-only bathroom. Sun Club rooms start larger.

Superior Rooms

The Sun Club Superior Tropical View is the entry point at 574 square feet. It gives you a king bed (or two doubles) plus a sofa and a balcony over the gardens, and it sleeps up to four. The Sun Club Superior Ocean View King is smaller at 447 square feet. The Superior Swim Out Ocean View King also measures 574 square feet and has a terrace with direct pool access.

Adults-Only Junior Suites

The Sun Club Junior Suite Tropical View (king or two doubles) is 474 square feet. The Pool Access Ocean View and Ocean Front King junior suites are both 574 square feet. The pool access suite puts a terrace within a few steps of the water, which suits anyone whose ideal morning starts with a swim before breakfast.

Master Suites and the Villa

The Master Suite Oceanfront King is 574 square feet. The Sun Club One Bedroom Villa Tropical View is a private honeymoon villa of 723 square feet with a king bed and a sleeper sofa, adults only. At the large end, the two-bedroom Master Suite Ocean View covers 1,852 square feet with a king bed and two doubles.

Family Options

Hyatt also lists a 714 square foot Sun Club Superior Family Room for four guests and a 1,495 square foot two-bedroom family suite for five.

What the Upgrade Is Supposed to Include

Sunscape Dominicus La Romana Sun Club Lounge
Sunscape Dominicus La Romana Sun Club Lounge

Hyatt’s Sunscape Dominicus Sun Club lists these benefits:

  • Personalized check-in and check-out with concierge service
  • Access to the Sun Club lounge, with continental breakfast, afternoon hot and cold hors d’oeuvres, desserts and premium liquors
  • Complimentary computer access in the lounge
  • An upgraded mini-bar refreshed daily, and upgraded bath amenities
  • Room service from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.
  • Wi-Fi for two devices in the room and across the property
  • A dedicated adults-only beach area

Tour operators and airline hotel pages add more detail. They describe separate family and adults-only sections in the lounge and on the beach, a Sun Club pool (one operator says two, one for adults and one for families), a daily newspaper in English or Spanish, and milk, cookies and other treats for children. They also mention exclusive Sun Club bars, an exclusive breakfast at Tierra, and a lunch at Tiki Taco reserved for the Sun Club family section.

Sources disagree on a few points. Whether dinner at Tierra is also exclusive is disputed, since one recent guest said dinner there was open to everyone. Hours and block assignments are not officially published, and neither is any promise of a particular building. I left out anything I could not confirm.

What Does the Sun Club Cost?

When you book a room category, the Sun Club is priced through the gap between categories. Sunscape Dominicus La Romana publishes sample rates for its low season (June – November). They are per person, per night, based on two adults sharing, and they shift with the calendar, so use them to compare categories rather than as a quote.

CategoryFrom (per person, per night)
Deluxe Tropical View (357 sq ft)$105.50
Deluxe Pool View (357 sq ft)$110.50
Sun Club Superior Tropical View (574 sq ft)$126.50
Sun Club Junior Suite Tropical View, adults only$137.00
Sun Club Junior Suite Pool Access Ocean View$142.00
Sun Club Junior Suite Ocean Front King$145.50
Sun Club Superior Family Room (4 guests)$230.00
Sun Club Two-Bedroom Family Suite (5 guests)$324.50
Sun Club Honeymoon Villa, adults only$339.50

The gap that matters is between the cheapest standard room and the cheapest Sun Club room, about $21 per person per night at these rates. A couple staying seven nights would pay roughly $294 more for the Superior Tropical View, and about $560 more for an Ocean Front junior suite. Peak season can change those numbers a lot, so price your own dates before deciding.

The Case for Upgrading

Guests who value the Sun Club tend to point to service and convenience. A family who stayed in January 2026 praised the lounge, the pool bar, the access to breakfast and lunch restaurants, and the daily mini-bar refresh. Other guests liked concierges who sent activity updates by text and handled restaurant reservations. A July 2026 reviewer enjoyed the reserved feel of the beach section and the premium drinks. Several earlier reviews simply call the adults-only side relaxing and worth the money.

The appeal is easy to follow. A resort this size fills up around the main pool by late morning. A lounge where you can grab a coffee, someone who books your dinner and a room with nearly twice the floor space add up to a calmer pace. If you are traveling as a couple or celebrating something, that can be worth paying for.

The Case Against Upgrading

The sharpest criticism is about enforcement. Several 2026 reviewers said guests without Sun Club status used the Sun Club beach, pool, bar and snack bar because access was not reliably checked. The resort runs wristband-free, which makes the exclusive areas easy for anyone to wander into. One Tripadvisor reviewer called the upgrade a waste of money for exactly this reason. The lounge and the towel room were the places most consistently described as controlled.

A February 2026 couple liked the lounge and the premium liquor but did not think the upgrade justified the cost. An April 2026 guest said a promised premium-location suite never materialized and pursued a refund. That fits with the front-desk supplement: if the pitch centers on a better room, ask whether the price buys a named Sun Club room category or only access to services.

An independent reviewer who paid about 126 euros a night rated the resort 7.8 out of 10 and suggested it suits families best when the nightly price is around $220. Treat that as a reminder that the Sun Club is a premium layered on a mid-priced resort, so the larger the premium, the harder it is to justify.

Who Should Book the Sun Club

Book it if:

  • You want the lounge, the premium drinks, daily mini-bar service and a concierge who handles reservations.
  • You want a larger room, and 574 square feet instead of 357 matters to you.
  • You are traveling as a couple and want an adults-only room category.
  • The price gap for your dates is close to the $20 to $40 per person per night range, and you are booking a named Sun Club category.

Stay in a standard room if:

  • You plan to spend most days on excursions, such as boat trips from Bayahibe or walks in Cotubanamá National Park.
  • The main reason you want the upgrade is a quiet private pool or beach. Those are the areas where guests report the least dependable exclusivity.
  • You would use the lounge and room service lightly.
  • The Sun Club premium for your dates is large.

Before You Book

Ask for the room category by its exact name, and confirm which spaces apply to your group, since families and adults-only guests use different areas. If you are offered Sun Club at check-in, get the inclusions and the price basis in writing and ask whether your room changes. Then compare the premium with what you would really use, and divide it by the number of nights. If the lounge and service sound like a pleasant splurge, the Sun Club will probably deliver. If you are counting on an exclusive pool, think twice.
